Happy Birthday Katelyn!!

Well, I had it all planned out.  I was going to spend the day scanning pictures from the past 11 years to showcase my first born daughters special day.   It's the thought that counts, as they say, right?  Instead, today, Katelyn spent the day with the people who love her most.  First, we had lunch with Grandma and Grandpa Green, complete with singing waitresses.

Then back to Grandma's house where Katelyn baked and iced her own birthday cupcakes!  I love child labor! LOL

Finally it was off to Pizza Hut to celebrate once again.  The kids all had a blast eating pizza and being silly.

Im pretty sure they are wearing as much pizza on their face, as went in their tummies!

Finally we had cupcakes and presents.  Katelyn has been begging for about a year for an ipod touch, which cost about $200.  We decided it was best for her to save up the money and purchase it herself.  Finally after saving and saving, she has more than enough money!  I tell you what, I am not sure she could be any more excited!
Katelyn's new blanket, made by Aunt Tammy! She loves it!

Preston is enjoying his cupcake!

I am so proud of our daughter.  Of course, just like every parent of a pre-teen daughter, we have our ups and downs, our major disagreements.  But, I know that I have been told more times than I can count, that she is a joy to be around.  She is polite and helpful, respectful and humble.  She is a very blessed girl with parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts-uncles-and cousins who all think she is pretty amazing!

And I leave you with a picture to preview my next post...Even at 66 years old, Grandpa Green has "still got it"!!  He will surely not have one regret later, that he didn't enjoy his grandkids to the fullest!

Snow day!

I felt like I was in Junior High all over again last night, anticipating whether or not school would be called off.  As a stay-at-home-mom I definitely have mixed emotions on snow days.  On the one hand, there is the possibility of sleeping in, on the other hand, I go from a mostly quiet 2 year old to 4 hungry, bored, housebound children.   It's amazing how even with 2 televisions, 3 computers, 3 hand held video games, and a Wii, there is NOTHING to do!

So, in the end, our 4-6 inches turned into a measly 2ish inches.  Still enough to make our little country roads a mess.  Messy enough, in fact, to call school off tomorrow also.  I think we might just have to pay a visit to Grandma's house to break up the unplanned 4 day weekend.

I told Katelyn last night that if school was canceled, we could sew some today.  She has been eager to learn.  She decided a few weeks ago that she wanted to make an apron.  After choosing her fabrics I helped her get everything cut out.  I'm not really sure what I was thinking, but I guess this was not really what you would call a beginner project.  So, rather than guiding her, I ended up making it myself, while she kept me company.  Katelyn can be great company, and I love those times that we can just sit and talk.  She really is growing up.

Here is our final product...

Black with white polka dots and a cute pink pocket on this side...

And white with black polka dots on this side.  We tied it in front, because we can ;)  And this way you can see the ties.  She is pretty proud of it.  I have a feeling she will have it on daily, begging to help with dinner.

On a final note, I thought I would share how the girls and I occupied ourselves last night, while watching American Idol.  Definitely not my usual color, but its fun to just be crazy once in a while!
Please excuse my poor quality iPhone pictures... I promise by the next post I will have dusted off my sadly neglected 'real' camera.

My Maiden Blog Post!

So this is day one, post one of the "soon to be popular" Green Acres blog!  Considering that it is now 1a.m., this first post is going to be short and simple.  I guess I could begin by explaining my blog photo.  On my niece Morgan's very first visit to the wonderful state of Missouri, she met her 9, yes 9 doting cousins!  We gathered at the local park to have an amateur photo shoot of all 10 cousins together.  This is one of those wonderful "after" photos!  Ironically, Morgan isn't even in this picture. LOL  The always fun Uncle Jesse (and Uncle Philip) loaded all of the kids up on the see-saw and I couldn't pass up the opportunity for a photo.  Katelyn's ( far left) face is absolutely priceless! <3  One thing is for sure, we DO know how to have a good time!
Just so ya know- First, I hope for this blog to be a place where family (especially those out-of-towners) can stay caught up a bit more in detail than through Facebook.  But, my second hope is that I can share some of my crafts and projects.  Be it with the "world" or just with the few friends who will hopefully check up on me, I'm looking at it as a type of accountability guarantee.  If I know someone is expecting a post, I'm much more likely to produce something to post about!
